The British Museum was found in 1753 for holding in trust the private collection of Sir Hans Sloane. It is the oldest public museum of the world and it welcomes five million visitors a year.
On 6 December 2000, the Queen Elizabeth II conducted the formal opening of the "Queen Elizabeth II Great Court". This Millennium project was realized by Sir Norman Foster and it costed about £100 million. This project created a spectacular new public covered courtyard. It has been supported by a grant of £15.75 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
In this museum, you can find a huge variety of fine arts. In the next part, you will see the most known. The main subject of the museum is the ancient history (Greece & Rome) and the middle age.
