Looking for a job?

Looking for a job in London is not an easy job, but it is very important because if you found a job, you will validate your internship and earn some money. And with the living cost in London, earn money is a necessity. First, you need to have good shoes, a great CV and an important number of CV. Then you need some luck! In fact if you choose (like me) the doors to doors method, you will walk a lot.

You also need a BIG motivation, because most of time there is no vacancy. I will give you some advice in order to get an interview:

If there is some vacancy, try to speak, show your interest. Ask some questions about the job, because there is many people looking for a job in London. Managers easily hire motivated and good-looking staff.
If the answer is "not now", do not hesitate to come again. In general managers do not lie, so if they say "in one week", it is probably true.

You can also try with Internet, there is many website dealing with job looking, gumtree.com for example, I did not try this method but I know that some EFREIens found a job thanks to this website.

Work in London

Work as a PHP/MySQL developer

Finally I found my job thanks to another EFREIen. He was working as a PHP/MySQL developer and his boss was looking for someone else. So I took the job. It was an interesting experience, I learned PHP and for the first time I worked in IT.

It was paid 200£ per week for 36 hours.

I am sure that they will hire some EFREIens next week, they were very happy with us and recently they contact us with a job proposition. I left my job in good terms, I was hire just for one month. So all was clear from the first day to the last.

Work as a commis waiter

It is not my only work experience in London, I also try to be a commis waiter. It is the person in charge of carrying the meal between the kitchen and the restaurant. The rest of the time, he is polishing the plate. It is an awful job with very low wages, but if you have anything else it can be useful.

Last advice

Last but not least, do not hesitate to try every shop, restaurant, hotel... If you start by saying: "I can not get a job in this place", it will be very hard to find something.

Do not hesitate to lie about the duration of your stay. Everybody is lying and the manager will hire someone who stays a long time. But when you will quit, imagine a good excuse.
